A brand-new Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus was allegedly stolen from the Jamner ST depot in Jalgaon district late Monday night, triggering a police investigation and raising questions over security arrangements at the facility. The incident came to light after footage reportedly showed a man taking the newly delivered bus out of its parking area and driving it away from the depot.
The vehicle was reportedly taken from the depot after the suspect was seen sitting in the driver’s seat, reversing the bus from its parking spot and leaving the premises. The circumstances under which the bus was driven out have raised questions about how the theft was carried out and whether the depot’s security and surveillance systems detected the vehicle’s movement.
The bus, however, reportedly did not travel far. According to reports, one of its tyres was punctured while the vehicle was being driven away. The thieves are believed to have abandoned the bus near a village after the puncture and fled from the spot, allowing authorities to recover the newly delivered vehicle.
