Netanyahu Says Iran’s Government Has Been Weakened Amid Israel-Hezbollah Conflict
Netanyahu says Iran’s regime is weakening amid regional conflict.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday warned that Iran’s leadership has been significantly weakened and suggested that the Islamic Republic’s governing system is headed toward eventual collapse amid escalating regional tensions involving Israel, Iran, and Hezbollah.
Speaking at a farewell ceremony for outgoing Mossad chief David Barnea, Netanyahu said Israel’s adversaries had already suffered heavy losses and warned that any attempts to target the country would ultimately fail. He asserted that what he described as the “foundations” of Iran’s leadership had been severely damaged and would not recover to their former strength, signalling a continued hardline stance from the Israeli leadership.
Netanyahu’s remarks come amid ongoing hostilities in the region, particularly along Israel’s northern border, where exchanges of fire involving Hezbollah have intensified concerns about a broader regional conflict. His statement also followed recent diplomatic exchanges involving the United States, including a reported phone conversation with US President Donald Trump discussing developments in Iran and Lebanon.

In parallel, Trump had earlier claimed that Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to halt hostilities following days of escalation, saying Israel would refrain from launching an operation in Beirut while Hezbollah would stop firing on Israeli targets. However, Netanyahu appeared to distance himself from any suggestion of a formal ceasefire, indicating that Israeli military actions would continue if attacks on civilians persisted.
The differing public positions highlighted apparent gaps in messaging between Washington and Tel Aviv, even as diplomatic efforts reportedly continue behind the scenes to manage escalating tensions and prevent further regional spillover. The situation has also been complicated by ongoing violence involving Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, which Israel views as a direct security threat.
Meanwhile, reports from Iranian media suggested that Tehran has suspended talks with international mediators, citing Israel’s expanding military operations in Lebanon. The developments underline the fragility of diplomatic channels in the region as military activity and political rhetoric continue to intensify across multiple fronts.
