Netanyahu Calls For Israeli Military Independence Amid Mounting US-Iran Deal Tensions

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for a major shift in Israel’s defence strategy, saying the country must reduce its dependence on American military assistance and strengthen its domestic weapons manufacturing capabilities. The remarks come at a time of growing tensions between Israel and the United States over a US-backed diplomatic framework involving Iran, which Israeli leaders fear could restrict their future military options in the region.

Speaking during a meeting with reserve combat officers in the Gush Etzion settlement bloc in the West Bank, Netanyahu acknowledged the longstanding support Israel has received from Washington while emphasizing the need for greater self-reliance. He thanked American allies for their assistance over the years but argued that Israel must now focus on building an independent defence-industrial base capable of producing critical weapons and military equipment domestically.

The comments reflect broader concerns within the Israeli government regarding the country's strategic dependence on foreign military supplies during periods of regional instability. Israel has historically benefited from extensive US military aid, advanced weapons systems and defence cooperation, which have played a significant role in maintaining its military superiority in the Middle East.
