Nepal's New PM Balen Shah Tells PM Modi He is Eager to Strengthen India-Nepal Relations
Nepal's newly sworn PM Balen Shah thanks PM Modi and pledges stronger India-Nepal bilateral cooperation.
Balendra 'Balen' Shah has expressed his willingness to strengthen ties with India, thanking Narendra Modi for his congratulatory message following his swearing-in as Nepal’s Prime Minister. In an official response shared by the Prime Minister’s Office of Nepal, Shah conveyed his appreciation for PM Modi’s warm wishes and emphasised his eagerness to work closely with India. He highlighted the importance of advancing “multifaceted relations” between the two nations, focusing on shared prosperity and cooperation.
Earlier, PM Modi had congratulated Shah on assuming office, stating that his appointment reflects the trust of the Nepalese people in his leadership. He also expressed optimism about further strengthening the long-standing friendship between New Delhi and Kathmandu through closer collaboration.

Shah was sworn in as Prime Minister at a formal ceremony held at the presidential office, where Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy. The appointment was made under constitutional provisions, marking a significant political development in Nepal’s leadership.
The ceremony was attended by several key figures, including Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Prakash Man Singh Raut, and other senior officials, political leaders, and members of the diplomatic community.
India and Nepal share deep historical, cultural, and economic ties, and leadership-level engagement is seen as crucial for maintaining stability and cooperation in the region. Shah’s remarks signal continuity in bilateral relations, with both sides aiming to enhance partnership across sectors such as trade, infrastructure, and regional security.
