NDA Sharpens Uttar Pradesh 2027 Poll Strategy Following Nitin Nabin's Meeting With Allies

NDA leaders discuss strategy for Uttar Pradesh 2027 polls

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday signalled an early start to its campaign for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, with party national president Nitin Nabin asserting that the BJP would contest the polls together with its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners while expressing confidence that the alliance would return to power with a decisive mandate.

Addressing reporters after meeting leaders of NDA allies in Lucknow, Nabin said the BJP was capable of contesting elections on its own but remained committed to fighting the 2027 Assembly polls as part of the NDA. He said the party's priority would be to strengthen coordination among alliance partners to ensure a united campaign. “The Bharatiya Janata Party is capable of fighting elections. We will ensure that all NDA constituents continue to work together to make Uttar Pradesh an 'Uttam Pradesh',” he said.

Projecting confidence ahead of the elections, Nabin credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for governance and public welfare initiatives undertaken by the BJP-led governments. He said the leadership had worked with a spirit of service and expressed confidence that the NDA would once again form the government in the state. “We are fully confident that in the 2027 Assembly elections, the NDA alliance will form the government with a thumping majority,” he said.

The meeting with NDA allies followed a separate interaction earlier in the day between Nabin and former BJP state presidents, where leaders reviewed the party's organisational preparedness and election strategy. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said discussions focused on ensuring close coordination between the government and the party organisation with the aim of replicating—and surpassing—the BJP's performance in the 2017 Assembly elections. He said all NDA partners would remain united as preparations for the polls gather pace.

Maurya also launched a sharp attack on the opposition, particularly the Samajwadi Party (SP), claiming that the people of Uttar Pradesh preferred development, good governance and security over what he described as "goonda raj, mafia raj, dynastic politics and riots." He alleged that a return of the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP government would lead to a revival of land-grabbing and law-and-order issues, reiterating the BJP's narrative that governance and security would remain central themes of its election campaign.

Former Uttar Pradesh BJP president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary also stressed the importance of maintaining unity within the NDA and said the party was committed to working closely with its alliance partners in the run-up to the Assembly elections. Responding to questions on the BJP's relatively weaker performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, Chaudhary said the party had regained momentum by winning all the Assembly bypolls held after the general election.

He argued that the bypoll results reflected renewed public support for the BJP and expressed confidence that the party would secure an even larger mandate in 2027 than it achieved in 2017. The BJP's emphasis on "repeating 2017" highlights the benchmark it has set for itself ahead of the next Assembly election, when it will seek a third consecutive term in Uttar Pradesh. Sunday's series of meetings with party veterans and NDA allies is being seen as an effort to consolidate organisational strength, reinforce alliance coordination and begin preparations well ahead of the electoral contest expected in early 2027.
