National-Level Para Athlete Brutally Beaten to Death After Objecting to Indecent Behaviour at Wedding
Haryana para powerlifter Rohit Dhankar dies after mob attack triggered by objection to unruly conduct at a wedding.
Rohit Dhankar, a national-level para-athlete and celebrated para powerlifting champion from Rohtak, Haryana, died Saturday at PGIMS Rohtak due to injuries sustained in a brutal assault. The 28-year-old was attacked by a group of men armed with iron rods and hockey sticks after confronting them over alleged indecent behaviour at a wedding in Rewari Khera. His friend, who accompanied him, narrowly escaped the violent mob.
The incident escalated on the evening of November 27, when Rohit and his friend Jatin objected to the unruly conduct and abusive language of some wedding guests. Though the matter seemed temporarily resolved, the men later intercepted their vehicle near a railway crossing while returning to Rohtak. Surrounded by multiple vehicles, the group forcefully opened the car window and savagely beat Rohit before fleeing the scene.
Rohit was initially treated at Bhiwani General Hospital but referred to PGIMS Rohtak due to critical injuries. Despite intensive care, he succumbed to his wounds two days later. Police have registered a murder case and detained six individuals, seizing a vehicle used in the attack. The investigation continues as officers seek to identify and apprehend additional suspects involved in the vicious assault.

Rohit's achievements included holding two junior national para records and winning seven senior para powerlifting national championships. He represented India internationally and worked as a gym trainer. Former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had honoured him for his sporting accomplishments. Family and community members demand justice for the athlete brutally taken from them.
This brutal killing has shocked the sports fraternity and raised concerns over safety and law enforcement in public events, prompting calls for swift action against the perpetrators to deter such violence in the future.
