Namo Bharat RRTS Set to Extend 36 Km to Rajasthan After PIB Clearance

The proposed Delhi–Gurugram–Bawal Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor is set to be extended to Behror in Rajasthan, with the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) moving forward with plans to enhance regional connectivity across the National Capital Region (NCR). The proposal has already received clearance from the Public Investment Board (PIB) and has now been forwarded to the Ministry of Finance for financial approval. If approved, the extension will add a 36-kilometre stretch beyond Bawal, comprising 11 kilometres in Haryana and 25 kilometres in Rajasthan.

The expanded section will include four new stations between Bawal and Behror and is expected to reduce travel time across the stretch to approximately 24 minutes. The additional work is estimated to cost around ₹8,000 crore, increasing the total proposed cost of the corridor to nearly ₹43,000 crore. According to an office memorandum issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on July 9, the proposal was prepared after incorporating comments from the Department of Expenditure and other stakeholder ministries.

The ministry subsequently forwarded the PIB note based on a supplementary Detailed Project Report (DPR) submitted by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) on May 9. The extension marks another step in the evolution of the Delhi–Bawal RRTS project. Earlier this year, the Union Housing Ministry approved the corridor up to Bawal, expanding it from its earlier proposed terminus at Dharuhera. The Haryana government had approved the Delhi–Bawal alignment last year before forwarding it to the Centre for consideration.

Union Minister of State and Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh said the proposal restores the corridor to its originally envisioned alignment. He stated that the issue was discussed during a recent meeting of the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB), where members agreed that extending the corridor to Behror was necessary in view of the region’s growing industrial and economic importance. Singh said the Centre had taken into account several major infrastructure and industrial developments while approving the proposed extension.

These include the upcoming logistics hub at Nangal Chaudhary, the planned expansion of Industrial Model Township (IMT) Bawal, and the continued growth of the Khushkhera–Bhiwadi–Neemrana Investment Region, one of northern India’s major manufacturing and industrial clusters. According to the minister, the extended corridor is expected to significantly improve mobility for thousands of workers employed across the Shahjahanpur–Neemrana–Behror industrial belt. Better public transport connectivity is also expected to reduce travel time, support economic growth and strengthen links between Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan.

The Namo Bharat RRTS network is designed to provide high-speed, reliable regional rail connectivity across the NCR, enabling faster travel between major urban and industrial centres. The Delhi–Gurugram–Bawal corridor forms part of the broader plan to improve commuter transport while supporting the region’s expanding economic activity. The proposal is now awaiting financial clearance from the Department of Expenditure under the Ministry of Finance. Once approved, the project can move towards the next stages of planning and implementation, paving the way for the extension of the high-speed regional transit corridor into Rajasthan.
