Mysuru Man Attempts Self-Harm Outside College, Woman Injured

A man allegedly attempted suicide by pouring petrol on himself outside Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering in Mysuru and then tried to embrace a woman who had rejected him, putting her at risk during the incident. The man, identified as Chandan, is reportedly from Alagodu village in Malavalli taluk and had been pursuing the woman, who is from the same village. Police intervened at the scene and took him to KR Hospital for treatment.

According to the preliminary details, Chandan had reportedly approached the woman and was pursuing her, but she had rejected him. The incident occurred outside the college, where the man allegedly poured petrol over himself before attempting to move towards the woman. The circumstances surrounding the confrontation are still being investigated. Police are examining what led to the incident and how the situation escalated outside the educational institution.

The woman sustained minor injuries during the incident and was taken to a private hospital in Mysuru for treatment. Investigators are also trying to establish how she was injured and whether the petrol ignited at any point during the confrontation. Details about the extent of the injuries and the sequence of events were not immediately clear, and further information is expected as the police investigation progresses.

The Mysuru case comes amid other reported incidents in Karnataka involving violence following relationship disputes or rejected marriage proposals. In July last year, a man in Chikkaballapura allegedly attacked a woman with toilet-cleaning acid after she rejected his marriage proposal and subsequently set himself on fire. In another incident reported in Tumakuru in June this year, a man died in a car explosion after allegedly threatening to die with his former partner. The woman managed to escape from the vehicle and survived.

Police have not yet released further details about any possible legal action in the Mysuru case. The immediate focus remains on the treatment of the man and the injured woman, while investigators establish the exact sequence of events outside the college. Authorities are also examining whether the incident involved an intentional attempt to harm himself, the woman, or both, and any further developments are expected to depend on statements from the people involved and the findings of the investigation.
