Mumbai University Postpones July 6 Exams, New Dates Awaited

Mumbai University postpones July 6 exams due to heavy rain.

Mumbai University has postponed all examinations scheduled for Monday, July 6, 2026, following warnings of heavy rainfall and strong winds across Mumbai and nearby areas. The decision was taken after the India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for the region, with intense monsoon conditions expected to disrupt travel and normal life. Revised examination dates will be announced soon.

In an official circular issued on July 5, the university said all examinations planned for July 6 had been deferred in view of the weather forecast. The IMD warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall, with the possibility of extremely heavy showers at isolated locations. University authorities said the safety of students, faculty members and examination staff was the main reason behind the postponement.

The university also considered the difficulties students could face while travelling to examination centres. Heavy rainfall has increased the risk of waterlogging, traffic congestion and disruption to public transport across the city. Officials said conducting examinations under such conditions could create serious inconvenience for candidates travelling from different parts of Mumbai and surrounding regions.

A revised examination timetable will be published on the university’s official website once new dates are finalised. Students have been advised to regularly check the university portal for confirmed updates and avoid relying on unofficial information circulating online. The university has also asked affiliated colleges and concerned departments to take note of the postponement and revised arrangements.

University authorities said they would continue monitoring the weather situation before announcing the new examination dates. The decision is expected to affect thousands of students who were scheduled to appear for different examinations on Monday. Candidates have been asked to remain prepared for further announcements as weather conditions across the region continue to remain challenging.

The postponement comes amid widespread monsoon disruption in Mumbai and surrounding areas, where heavy rainfall has affected road, rail and air travel. Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary journeys and follow official weather and transport advisories. Students scheduled for the postponed examinations should continue checking official university updates for the revised timetable and further instructions.
