Modi and Cuban President Forge Stronger Ties at BRICS Summit

Meeting underscores India’s commitment to foster meaningful partnerships within the BRICS framework.

On the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez held a productive meeting to strengthen India-Cuba relations, focusing on transformative sectors like pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, traditional medicine, and digital infrastructure.

The leaders explored deeper collaboration in Ayurveda, Unified Payment Interface (UPI), disaster management, and capacity building, according to a statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs. They also committed to addressing global South challenges, such as health, pandemics, and climate change, while reinforcing their partnership in multilateral forums.

"PM Modi and President Diaz-Canel discussed advancing economic ties and cooperation in innovative fields," said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in a post on X. The dialogue highlighted the growing synergy between the two nations, blending India’s technological and traditional strengths with Cuba’s expertise in healthcare and biotechnology.
