MHA to Deploy 53 Additional CAPF Companies in Delhi Ahead of Republic Day
53 extra CAPF companies deployed for Republic Day.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has authorized the deployment of 53 additional companies of Central Armed Police Forces in Delhi to fortify security arrangements ahead of the Republic Day celebrations. This decision follows specific threat assessments received by intelligence agencies, highlighting potential risks to the high-profile national event. The reinforcements will supplement the existing substantial contingent of central forces already stationed in the capital.
Comprising personnel from the CRPF, BSF, SSB, CISF, and ITBP, these 53 companies equate to approximately 5,300 to 5,500 additional troops. Deployment will occur in phases, enhancing the overall security framework coordinated with Delhi Police. Officials emphasized that this augmentation addresses heightened vigilance requirements, particularly in light of recent incidents and ongoing threat evaluations.
The additional forces will primarily secure key Republic Day-related activities, including the main parade, the Prime Minister’s NCC Rally, the Beating Retreat ceremony, and observances on Mahatma Gandhi’s Martyrdom Day. Certain units are scheduled to remain in position beyond January 26 to oversee subsequent engagements and facilitate a controlled withdrawal, ensuring sustained stability during the extended period.

Intelligence analyses have identified vulnerabilities such as possible high-impact attacks targeting crowded gatherings, VIP movements, and symbolic venues. Concerns also extend to drone-assisted threats, cyber-driven misinformation efforts, and attempts to provoke public disturbances. These assessments have prompted the implementation of comprehensive multi-layered defenses.
Enhanced measures will include intensified area domination patrols, rigorous vehicle and personnel checks, and seamless coordination among agencies. The bolstered presence aims to preempt any attempts by adversarial elements to disrupt national celebrations or generate widespread alarm through exploitation of public events.
