Massive Crackdown in Gujarat! 1,000 Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants Nabbed

Ahmedabad and Surat Raids Expose Fake Documents and Terror Links

In a sweeping pre-dawn operation, Gujarat Police detained over 1,000 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, including women and children, across Ahmedabad and Surat, marking the state’s largest-ever crackdown on undocumented migrants.

Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi announced that 890 individuals were apprehended in Ahmedabad and 134 in Surat, with deportation processes already underway.

“This is the biggest operation of the Gujarat Police against people living illegally in the state,” Sanghavi declared in Surat, addressing reporters after a video-conference with senior officers. He issued a stern warning: “Illegal immigrants must surrender within two days, or they will be nabbed and deported.” He also vowed legal action against those sheltering them, emphasizing the state’s duty to curb illegal residency.

The operation, launched at 3 am on Saturday, uncovered a web of forged documents, primarily sourced from West Bengal, used by detainees to infiltrate various Indian states before settling in Gujarat. Sanghavi revealed alarming connections, stating, “Many of these people are involved with drug cartels, human trafficking, and, as we saw recently, two out of four Bangladeshis arrested worked in sleeper cells of Al Qaeda.”

He promised a thorough probe into their activities and the fake document networks, with evidence to be shared with West Bengal authorities.

Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Ahmedabad, Sharad Singhal, detailed the Ahmedabad raids, which targeted the Chandola area based on intelligence inputs.

“We detained 457 people so far. All have fake Indian citizenship documents, and we will investigate how they were obtained,” Singhal said, noting that 127 Bangladeshis were detained since April 2024, with 77 already deported.

In Surat, over 100 detainees were rounded up across six police station areas—Udhana, Katargam, Mahidharpura, Pandesara, Salabatpur, and Limbayat. “They entered India illegally and lived here with forged documents,” said Rajdeep Singh Nakum, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Operations Group. “Deportation will follow after interrogation.”

Director General of Police Vikas Sahay confirmed that interrogations are ongoing to verify nationalities. “Once established as Bangladeshi nationals, deportation will be coordinated with the Central government and Border Security Force at the earliest,” he said.

The operation, involving the Crime Branch, Special Operations Group, Economic Offences Wing, and local police, reflects a broader national push, including Delhi Police probes into illegal immigration networks.

Sanghavi linked the crackdown to national security concerns, citing orders from the Cabinet Committee on Security to expel Pakistani nationals as well. “We congratulate Ahmedabad and Surat police for their relentless efforts,” he said, underscoring Gujarat’s resolve to root out illegal immigrants and their enablers.
