Marco Rubio visits Taj Mahal in Agra with wife during official India visit.
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited the Taj Mahal in Agra on Monday morning along with his wife Jeanette, as part of his ongoing four-day official visit to India. The high-profile visit, which took place around 10:15 a.m., drew significant security arrangements due to the presence of a large international delegation and sensitive diplomatic protocols.
Rubio was accompanied by a 60-member delegation that joined him during the visit to the iconic 17th-century monument. Earlier, he arrived at Kheria Airport in Agra, where he was received by Commissioner Deepak Kumar and District Magistrate Manish Bansal. Officials said he briefly interacted with local authorities upon arrival before proceeding directly to the Taj Mahal complex.
During the visit, Rubio and his wife spent approximately an hour exploring the Taj Mahal premises. They were briefed on the monument’s historical and cultural significance by local guide Nitin Gupta, who provided details about its Mughal-era architecture and heritage importance. The visit remained largely structured, with officials ensuring the delegation could view key sections of the monument within the scheduled timeframe.

Security arrangements in and around the Taj Mahal were significantly tightened for the visit. Barricades were set up around the monument’s perimeter, and tourists inside the complex were temporarily cleared before the delegation entered. The operation involved coordination between Indian security agencies and US security personnel, with rehearsals conducted a day earlier to ensure smooth movement and safety protocols.
After concluding the Taj Mahal tour, Rubio was scheduled to have lunch at Hotel Amar Vilas before departing for Jaipur via a special flight at 12:50 p.m. Authorities described the visit as tightly coordinated, with carefully planned logistics covering transport, security, and timing to accommodate the diplomatic schedule.
The visit is part of Rubio’s broader diplomatic trip to India, which began on May 23. During the visit, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and conveyed an invitation from former US President Donald Trump for an official visit to the United States. The trip comes at a time when India-US relations are being closely watched, with both sides reportedly working to strengthen engagement across strategic and economic areas.
