Manhattan Office Shooting Kills 5, Including Cop
Tragic shooting rocks NYC office, leaving five dead.
A horrific shooting unfolded Monday evening at a Park Avenue office building in midtown Manhattan, claiming at least five lives, including an off-duty NYPD officer, sources confirmed to the Associated Press. The gunman, identified as Shane Tamura from Nevada, took his own life after the attack, according to two individuals familiar with the investigation.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene around 6:30 pm following reports of gunfire at the prominent office building, home to major financial firms and the NFL’s headquarters. Authorities found identification on Tamura, including a Las Vegas concealed carry permit, sources said, speaking anonymously due to the ongoing investigation.
Witness Jessica Chen, who was attending a presentation on the second floor, described hearing rapid gunfire from below. “We heard multiple shots in quick succession,” she told ABC News. Terrified, she and others barricaded themselves in a conference room, with Chen texting her parents to express her love amid the chaos.

Mayor Eric Adams confirmed multiple injuries and urged those inside the building to remain sheltered as police conducted a thorough floor-by-floor search. In a social media post, Adams shared that he was en route to the hospital to support the victims’ families.
Video footage captured evacuees exiting the building with hands raised, while nearby finance workers described a scene of panic. “It was like a crowd stampede,” said Anna Smith, who hid in her office for two hours before being allowed to leave. The building, which also houses the Irish consulate, sits in a bustling area near Grand Central Terminal and St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
The city’s emergency alert system reported significant traffic delays, road closures, and transit disruptions in the area. Despite this tragedy, New York City has seen a historic decline in murders and gun-related injuries through late July, marking one of the safest years in recent decades.
