KPK Assembly Rejects Pakistan’s Entry Into Trump-Led Gaza Peace Board
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly has opposed Pakistan’s participation in the US-backed Gaza peace body.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Provincial Assembly has unanimously adopted a resolution rejecting Pakistan’s decision to join the Board of Peace for Gaza, an initiative launched by former US President Donald Trump. The resolution comes days after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the board’s charter at a ceremony held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The resolution was tabled by KPK Law Minister Aftab Alam of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and was supported by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F). The session was chaired by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati. PTI has governed the province since 2013, and the party has remained vocal in opposing the federal government’s foreign policy decisions.
In its text, the resolution stated that Pakistan’s participation in the Board of Peace contradicts the country’s historic and principled stance on Palestine. It argued that joining the US-backed forum undermines the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and runs counter to relevant United Nations resolutions. The House claimed the move could indirectly strengthen Israeli actions against Palestinians.

The Assembly further described the Board of Peace as a political forum operating under the patronage of the United States and Israel, warning that sub-committees formed under the initiative could act against Pakistan’s national interests. It urged the federal government to reassess its position and avoid any actions that compromise Pakistan’s longstanding support for Palestinian sovereignty.
The resolution also recalled the position of Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah, reiterating that Pakistan would never recognize Israel and would continue to oppose what it termed the illegal occupation of Palestinian territory. It demanded that Islamabad adopt a clear, independent, and principled policy in line with public sentiment and historical commitments.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker and Leader of the Opposition in the KPK Assembly Ibadullah said his party, along with the PPP and ANP, did not support the resolution. The Board of Peace has been presented by Washington as part of the second phase of a Gaza ceasefire framework and is being projected as a new international body aimed at addressing conflicts beyond Gaza, a move that has triggered political debate within Pakistan.
