Korean Air Inks $50B Boeing Deal
Korean Air buys 103 Boeing jets
Korean Air has finalized a historic $50 billion deal to acquire 103 Boeing aircraft, 19 spare engines, and a 20-year engine maintenance contract, marking the largest order in the airline’s history. The agreement, signed on Monday in Washington during a meeting between South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and U.S. President Donald Trump, strengthens ties with the U.S. aviation industry and supports Korean Air’s merger with Asiana Airlines.
The deal comprises $36.2 billion for 20 Boeing 777-9s, 25 Boeing 787-10s, 50 Boeing 737-10s, and eight Boeing 777-8F freighters, with deliveries planned through 2030. Additionally, $690 million covers 19 spare engines from GE Aerospace and CFM International, and $13 billion is allocated for a 20-year maintenance contract with GE Aerospace. “This strategic investment enhances our operational capabilities and global competitiveness,” Korean Air stated.
The signing ceremony included Korean Air Chairman Walter Cho, Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stephanie Pope, and GE Aerospace’s Russell Stokes. The order builds on a $32.7 billion commitment from March 2025 for 50 Boeing jets, bringing Korean Air’s 2025 Boeing orders to over 150 aircraft. The deal supports 135,000 U.S. jobs and aligns with Korean Air’s goal to modernize its fleet with fuel-efficient planes, enhancing sustainability and passenger experience post-Asiana merger.
