FBI Extradites MS-13 Leader Francisco Javier Roman-Bardales from Mexico
In a significant triumph for U.S. law enforcement, the FBI, in collaboration with the Department of Justice and interagency partners, has successfully extradited Francisco Javier Roman-Bardales, an alleged senior leader of the notorious MS-13 gang, from Mexico. The operation, confirmed late Monday night, marks a major step in dismantling one of the most violent transnational criminal organizations operating across the United States, Mexico, and El Salvador.
Roman-Bardales, a fugitive on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list, was apprehended by Mexican authorities in a coordinated effort with the FBI.
As of Tuesday evening, he is being transported within the U.S. to face charges related to his alleged role in directing MS-13’s operations, including orchestrating acts of violence, drug trafficking, and extortion. The FBI had offered a $250,000 reward for information leading to his capture, underscoring his significance as a target.
FBI Director Kash Patel hailed the extradition as “a major victory for our law enforcement partners and a safer America,” thanking both the agency’s personnel and Mexico’s SSPC and FGE teams for their support. The arrest reflects heightened cooperation between the U.S. and Mexico, amid the Trump administration’s push to combat MS-13, designated a terrorist organization earlier this year.
As Roman-Bardales prepares to face American justice, this operation signals a resolute stance against gang violence, promising safer communities and a blow to MS-13’s leadership structure.
