Karnataka Cop Says Egg Rice Better Than Police Job, Probe Launched

Karnataka constable's viral WhatsApp status claiming selling egg rice is better than police duty prompts departmental probe.

The Karnataka Police Department has ordered a formal enquiry after a constable’s WhatsApp status, criticizing police duty and working conditions, went viral on social media. The incident was reported from Koppal district and has reignited debate over workload and stress within the police force.

The constable, identified as Bramhanand, allegedly posted the status in response to remarks by Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG & IGP) M.A. Saleem regarding the recruitment of 8,300 police personnel. In his message, Bramhanand expressed frustration over continuous duty schedules and lack of leave, stating that selling egg rice was preferable to police service.

In another post, the constable reportedly warned aspiring candidates to reconsider joining the police department and suggested opting for other government services instead. These messages spread rapidly across social media platforms, drawing attention from senior officials and colleagues alike.

Taking serious note of the matter, Koppal District Superintendent of Police Ram L. Arasiddi ordered an internal enquiry to ascertain the circumstances and intent behind the posts. Police sources said disciplinary action would be initiated if the constable is found to have violated service conduct rules.

The incident has revived memories of earlier cases where work-related stress among police personnel led to serious consequences. Officials recalled a 2013 incident near Bengaluru where a constable fatally shot a sub-inspector after being denied leave, highlighting the pressures faced by lower-rank officers.

Police authorities emphasized that grievances must be addressed through official channels and not aired publicly. The enquiry report is awaited, following which appropriate action will be taken in accordance with departmental norms.
