Karnataka Braces for Chaos: Congress, BJP Protests Clash

Karnataka gears up for rival protests by Congress, BJP.

Karnataka is on high alert as the state government prepares for simultaneous protests by the ruling Congress and opposition BJP on August 5. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will spearhead a rally at Freedom Park, accusing the BJP of “vote theft” in last year’s Lok Sabha elections. In response, the BJP plans a counter-protest at Vidhana Soudha to challenge Congress’ claims and “expose their misleading narrative.”

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara assured reporters that robust security measures are in place. “We’ve deployed adequate police personnel and issued instructions for all necessary precautions,” he said. The state also faces protests from Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) employees on the same day, adding to the tension.

Parameshwara also elaborated on the Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF), recently established to combat drug issues in Bengaluru. “The ANTF operates like a task force, acting swiftly on intelligence. We’ve issued specific instructions to every Superintendent of Police,” he stated. To bolster the ANTF, personnel from the Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) have been reassigned. “With no active Naxal threat in Karnataka, we reduced ANF staff and transferred 200-250 personnel to the Special Action Force, with some now supporting ANTF in Bengaluru,” he added.

The Home Minister also addressed the upcoming submission of the Scheduled Castes (SC) survey report by the Justice Nagamohan Das Commission. “The report will be submitted to the Chief Minister today, and we’ll act on its recommendations to ensure internal reservation,” Parameshwara said, emphasizing the government’s commitment to implementing the findings.

As Bengaluru braces for a day of heightened political activity, the state government is taking no chances, ensuring security and administrative measures are in place to manage the protests and ongoing initiatives.
