#JUSTIN: Violence Breaks Out Outside Pinarayi Vijayan’s Home After ED Officials Leave

Protesters attacked ED vehicle after raid at Vijayan’s residence.

Violence erupted outside the residence of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday after officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) concluded a raid at the property and attempted to leave the premises. The incident took place at Vijayan’s rented residence in Thiruvananthapuram, where tensions escalated rapidly as party workers and supporters gathered outside the house following the enforcement action. The disturbance drew heavy police deployment and triggered concerns over the safety of officials involved in the operation.

According to visuals aired by several television news channels, suspected workers and supporters of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPI(M), assembled near the residence shortly after news of the raid spread. Protesters allegedly shouted slogans against the ED and attempted to prevent officials from departing the area. The protest soon turned aggressive, with some individuals reportedly blocking the movement of the agency’s vehicle and engaging in acts of vandalism during the confrontation.

Authorities said the vehicle carrying ED personnel, including women officials, came under attack as the team attempted to leave the location. Stones were allegedly hurled at the vehicle, resulting in damage to the windshield and creating panic among those inside. Security personnel accompanying the officials moved quickly to shield the occupants while local police attempted to disperse the crowd and restore order in the area. No immediate reports of serious injuries were confirmed following the incident.

Police and central security forces faced difficulties in controlling the rapidly swelling crowd as protesters continued demonstrating outside the residence. Visuals from the scene showed officers struggling to clear the road and create a safe passage for the enforcement team. The situation remained tense for some time before additional personnel were deployed to prevent further violence and ensure the safe exit of the officials from the locality.

The Enforcement Directorate has not yet issued a detailed public statement regarding the purpose or outcome of the raid conducted at Vijayan’s residence. The incident, however, has intensified political tensions in Kerala, with opposition parties and political observers closely monitoring developments surrounding the investigation and the violent reaction that followed. The attack on central agency officials is expected to trigger further scrutiny from both law enforcement authorities and political leadership in the coming days.
