#JUSTIN: Death Toll in Firecracker Factory Blast In MP Rises to Five, Twenty-Three Injured
Deadly factory explosion in Madhya Pradesh leaves several critically injured.
The death toll in the explosion at a firecracker factory in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district has risen to five after two critically injured workers succumbed during treatment on Thursday, officials said. The blast, which occurred in the Tonk Kalan area, also left 23 others injured, several of whom continue to receive medical care at hospitals in Dewas and Indore.
Dewas Additional District Magistrate Sanjeev Jain confirmed that two injured workers admitted to a private hospital died while undergoing treatment, taking the total fatalities to five. Authorities said the factory owner, Anil Malviya, who held the licensed operation, has been arrested under the stringent provisions of the National Security Act (NSA). Officials have also suspended the firecracker manufacturing licence linked to the facility.
Three workers who sustained serious burn injuries were shifted to the Government Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital in Indore for advanced treatment. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited the hospital to meet the injured victims and review the medical response. Speaking to reporters, the chief minister said the government would not spare anyone found guilty and assured strict action based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.

The state government has also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda said authorities are examining possible lapses in safety compliance and operational procedures at the factory. Officials indicated that the explosion has raised serious concerns regarding adherence to regulations governing the handling and storage of explosive materials.
According to Home Department Additional Chief Secretary Sanjay Shukla, experts from the central government’s Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO), the State Pollution Control Board, and the Forensic Science Laboratory have joined the investigation. The agencies are expected to determine the exact cause of the explosion and assess whether negligence or violations of safety norms contributed to the tragedy.
Industrial accidents involving firecracker manufacturing units have repeatedly highlighted the risks associated with improper storage and handling of explosive substances in India. Authorities said the current incident would be thoroughly investigated to identify accountability and prevent similar disasters in the future, while local administration officials continue monitoring treatment and relief efforts for the injured workers and their families.
