Jimmy Fallon Critiques Trump’s Global Tariffs, Highlights Impact on India and Brazil

Jimmy Fallon mocks Trump’s global tariffs in a sharp monologue, mixing political satire with pop culture jabs.

American comedian and late-night host Jimmy Fallon delivered a biting monologue on The Tonight Show, targeting US President Donald Trump’s recent tariff policies affecting over 90 countries, including India, Brazil, and Canada. Fallon’s satirical commentary, aired on August 8, 2025, also included playful jabs at Russian President Vladimir Putin and actress Sydney Sweeney, amid her ongoing American Eagle advertisement controversy.

Fallon opened with, “Today, more of President Trump’s tariffs hit over 90 countries, including Canada, Brazil, and India. The only places Trump didn’t charge are North Korea and Epstein’s island.” This quip referenced a Wall Street Journal exposé alleging Trump signed a birthday letter to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a claim Trump denied, prompting a lawsuit against the outlet, Rupert Murdoch, and NewsCorp for relying on “sources that don’t even exist.”

Highlighting the economic fallout, Fallon noted India and Brazil face a 50% tariff, with India’s penalty tied to its continued oil trade with Russia. He humorously warned of a trade war’s impact, stating, “Fifty per cent tariffs on Brazil will skyrocket prices for bananas, mangoes, and pineapples. Edible arrangements are safe, as long as you don’t hike the price of cantaloupe and long toothpicks. Even toilet paper’s going to cost more, and you know it’s bad when people come out of the bathroom like, ‘Hey, where’s that long CVS receipt?’”

Fallon also mocked Trump’s claim of setting a deadline for Russia to end the Ukraine war, quipping it was “right under building a new ballroom to meet Sydney Sweeney.” The Euphoria star has faced backlash over an American Eagle jeans ad, criticized for a “genes” and “jeans” pun some labeled as promoting Nazi propaganda and racism. Trump, learning Sweeney is a registered Republican, called her ad “the hottest” on X, drawing Fallon’s comedic ire.

Known for blending pop culture and political satire, Fallon’s The Tonight Show remains a platform for sharp commentary, having hosted stars like Priyanka Chopra. His latest roast underscores the economic and diplomatic tensions sparked by Trump’s tariffs, leaving audiences laughing while pondering the real-world implications.
