Jharkhand Police Hold Four With Criminal Histories In Extortion Attempt Case
Four suspects with criminal histories face action over alleged extortion.
Four armed men with criminal records were arrested in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district for allegedly assaulting a man and demanding extortion money while he was watching a movie with his family at a cinema hall, police said on Monday. The arrests were made on Sunday following information received by the police about the accused. Two pistols and six cartridges were recovered from their possession, along with a sports utility vehicle.
The incident took place on September 11 during the interval of a movie screening, when the accused allegedly approached the victim, identified as Amar Nath Keshri. According to police, the group assaulted Keshri’s son and then demanded extortion money from him. The incident occurred while Keshri was at the cinema with members of his family, prompting him to approach the police after the alleged assault.
Keshri subsequently filed a complaint at the Town police station on Saturday, following which police began investigating the incident. Acting on a tip-off, a police team traced and arrested four of the alleged offenders on Sunday. Deoghar SDPO Kuldeep Kumar said the arrests led to the recovery of two pistols and six cartridges, which were allegedly in the possession of the accused.

Police said the four arrested men have a significant criminal history and are wanted in connection with more than 40 cases. The recovery of firearms and ammunition has also been included in the investigation as authorities examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged extortion attempt. The police are continuing to gather information about the accused and their previous criminal activities.
The police officer said four other alleged accomplices have also been identified in connection with the case. Efforts are currently underway to trace and arrest them, while the investigation into the September 11 incident continues. The arrests and recoveries are expected to help police establish the full sequence of events and determine the involvement of each person allegedly connected to the extortion attempt.
