JD Vance States US And Iran Have Made Significant Progress Towards Agreement

JD Vance says US and Iran made a lot of progress towards a deal.

The United States and Iran have made significant progress toward a potential ceasefire extension agreement, US Vice President JD Vance said on Thursday, though he indicated that President Donald Trump has not yet formally approved the proposed deal. Speaking to reporters, Vance said negotiations between Washington and Tehran were continuing, with discussions now focused on finalising specific language in the agreement.

“We’re going back and forth on a couple of language points. We’ve made a lot of progress here,” he said, suggesting that talks had advanced considerably despite unresolved details. The vice president added that the administration remains cautiously optimistic about the outcome of the negotiations. “Hopefully, we’ll continue to make progress and the president will be in a position where he can endorse the agreement, but obviously that’s still TBD (to be determined),” Vance stated during the briefing.

His remarks came hours after US media reports citing American officials claimed that Washington and Tehran had reached the framework of a deal related to extending the current ceasefire arrangement. However, neither the White House nor Iranian authorities have publicly confirmed that a final agreement has been signed.

The latest diplomatic efforts come amid continued tensions in the Middle East and ongoing international concern over regional stability. Washington and Tehran have remained engaged in indirect negotiations on several security and geopolitical issues in recent months, with mediators attempting to prevent further escalation in the region.

While Vance’s comments signalled momentum in the talks, uncertainty remains over whether the final language will satisfy both sides and secure formal approval from President Trump. Further negotiations are expected in the coming days as diplomats work toward finalising the agreement.
