Japan Reaffirms India Ties As “Extremely Important” Before New Delhi Visit
Japan reiterates strong commitment to deepening strategic partnership with India ahead of high-level New Delhi visit.
Japan has reaffirmed that strengthening ties with India is “extremely important” as Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi prepares to begin her first official visit to New Delhi from July 1 to July 3, during which she will hold a bilateral summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The visit is expected to further deepen the India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
The Japanese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that discussions during the visit will focus on expanding cooperation in investment, innovation, and economic security under the framework of the Japan–India Joint Vision for the Next 10 Years. The statement highlighted that both sides aim to strengthen collaboration in support of a free, open, and stable Indo-Pacific region.
According to the schedule, Prime Minister Takaichi will arrive in New Delhi on Wednesday evening and will be accorded a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday morning. She will then hold official talks with Prime Minister Modi, followed by the signing and exchange of multiple agreements aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation across key sectors.

The Japanese leader is also expected to participate in a business forum during her visit, reflecting the growing emphasis on trade, investment, and industrial collaboration between the two countries. The upcoming summit marks her first visit to India after assuming office, underscoring the high diplomatic priority both nations attach to the relationship.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the 16th India–Japan Annual Summit will provide an opportunity for both sides to review the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and global developments. It added that the visit builds on Prime Minister Modi’s earlier trip to Tokyo in August 2025, which helped outline the long-term roadmap for bilateral engagement.
India and Japan have in recent months continued high-level engagement, including meetings between Prime Minister Modi and Japanese leadership at international forums such as the G7 Summit in France. Both sides have reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation in areas such as security, economic growth, technology, and people-to-people exchanges, while also working toward a broader Free and Open Indo-Pacific vision.
