Jaishankar’s Ukraine, Poland Visit Scheduled For September 3-5
Jaishankar will hold bilateral talks in Ukraine and Poland.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will visit Ukraine and Poland from September 3 to 5 as India looks to strengthen bilateral ties with the two European countries and exchange views on regional developments.
During the three-day visit, Jaishankar will hold talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski. The Ministry of External Affairs has indicated that discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing issues of mutual interest.
The visit comes days after Jaishankar held a telephone conversation with Sybiha on August 26. During that discussion, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister briefed Jaishankar on developments in the Black Sea and the challenges affecting maritime activity in the region. The two sides also discussed measures to restore freedom of navigation and maintain the safety of commercial shipping.

Sybiha later highlighted the impact of attacks affecting Ukrainian ports and maritime routes, particularly on food exports and wider global food security. He also discussed with Jaishankar the need to restore and secure freedom of navigation in the Black Sea. The conversation also covered India-Ukraine bilateral cooperation and plans for continued engagement between the two sides.
Jaishankar, in his response, reaffirmed India’s position in favour of dialogue and diplomacy. He noted the importance of resuming commerce in the Black Sea while ensuring the safety and security of seafarers and commercial shipping. The upcoming visit is expected to provide an opportunity for the two sides to continue these discussions in person.
The visit to Poland will add another dimension to India’s engagement with Europe, with Jaishankar scheduled to meet Sikorski for discussions on bilateral cooperation and regional issues. The overall visit is expected to advance India’s ties with Ukraine and Poland while providing a platform to exchange views on developments affecting the wider region.
