India and Iran discuss West Asia situation at BRICS meet.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held detailed discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday, focusing on developments in West Asia and their wider geopolitical and economic implications, during a BRICS-related diplomatic engagement hosted in New Delhi.
According to official communications, the two leaders exchanged views on the evolving situation in West Asia, a region currently witnessing heightened tensions due to ongoing conflicts involving multiple regional and global actors. Jaishankar noted in a post on social media platform X that the discussions included both the regional security environment and bilateral matters of mutual interest between India and Iran.
The meeting took place alongside a BRICS foreign ministers’ conclave attended by representatives from member countries, including Russia, Brazil, and other emerging economies. India, as the current chair of the grouping, hosted the high-level diplomatic gathering ahead of the BRICS summit scheduled for later in the year, underscoring its role in shaping dialogue among major developing economies.

The BRICS bloc, which has expanded significantly in recent years, now includes several new members and represents a substantial share of global population, economic output, and trade. Officials highlighted that peace and security remain central themes in the bloc’s diplomatic agenda, particularly as member states navigate the economic and strategic consequences of regional conflicts. The conversation between Jaishankar and Araghchi reflects ongoing efforts to maintain diplomatic engagement amid shifting geopolitical dynamics in West Asia and beyond.
