Israeli Strikes Kill Eight In Gaza City As Ceasefire Holds Uneasily
Israeli strikes kill at least eight in Gaza amid ongoing fragile ceasefire.
At least eight people were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City on Thursday, according to a civil defence spokesman in the Palestinian territory. The latest escalation adds to continuing violence in the region despite a ceasefire framework that has remained fragile since October.
Civil defence spokesperson Mahmoud Bassal said that the strikes hit residential areas in Gaza City at dawn, killing at least seven people in attacks on housing structures and one person in the Al-Shati refugee camp located to the west of the city. Emergency services also reported multiple injuries, with Al-Shifa Hospital confirming that at least 15 people were wounded in the strikes.
The reported airstrikes come amid ongoing tensions in the Gaza Strip, where sporadic violence has continued even after a truce was declared. Local authorities say more than half of the territory is currently under Israeli military control, despite provisions outlined in the ceasefire agreement.

According to figures cited by Gaza’s health ministry, at least 936 people have been killed since the ceasefire began. The ministry, which operates under Hamas administration, states that its figures are considered reliable by the United Nations, although the numbers cannot be independently verified in real time due to restricted access to the territory.
Both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of violating the ceasefire terms, further complicating efforts to move toward the second phase of the agreement. The next stage was expected to include Hamas disarmament and a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces, but negotiations have remained stalled for months amid ongoing hostilities.
The latest developments come as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the military to expand control over large portions of the Gaza Strip, while continued strikes have targeted senior Hamas military figures in recent weeks. The situation remains highly volatile, with no clear timeline for a lasting ceasefire implementation.
