Israeli Premier Says Iran War Has Achieved More Than Half Its Aims

Netanyahu says Iran war goals now beyond halfway point.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the ongoing war against Iran has surpassed the "halfway point" in achieving its military objectives, emphasizing significant degradation of Tehran's capabilities without specifying an end timeline.

In a Monday interview with US broadcaster Newsmax, Netanyahu stated, "We're beyond the halfway point in terms of mission success," clarifying the progress refers to operational goals rather than duration. He highlighted successes including the elimination of thousands of Iran's Revolutionary Guards members, destruction of missile factories, weapons production sites, and key nuclear scientists. The primary aim remains thwarting Iran's nuclear ambitions, with current efforts targeting its enriched uranium stockpiles.

The conflict, launched on February 28, 2026, in a joint US-Israel operation under President Donald Trump, was initially projected to last four to six weeks but has extended amid evolving targets. Netanyahu noted that strikes have weakened Iran's military, industrial, and missile infrastructure, bringing Israel and the US "close to finishing their arms industry." He expressed confidence that the Iranian regime could collapse internally due to these pressures.

This update follows weeks of intense airstrikes on Iranian facilities, preventing Tehran from relocating nuclear and ballistic programs underground. Netanyahu avoided a firm schedule, saying, "Iran is weakening, and we are growing stronger," while measuring success by missions accomplished. The remarks underscore Israel's strategic pivot to neutralize existential threats posed by Iran's nuclear pursuits and delivery systems to US cities.

Global reactions remain mixed, with the US affirming major damage to Iranian targets while allies urge de-escalation. The war has reshaped Middle East dynamics, intensifying focus on oil infrastructure and regional stability. As operations continue, Netanyahu's assessment signals optimism but cautions against premature conclusions.
