Israeli Military Airstrike Hits Alleged Islamic Jihad Member in Nuseirat, Gaza

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) carried out a precision airstrike in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza on Saturday, targeting a member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist organisation, according to a military statement. The operation was described as aimed at neutralising an imminent threat to IDF troops, despite a fragile two-week ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the Islamist group that governs Gaza and is allied with PIJ. The truce, brokered by US President Donald Trump, has held tenuously amid ongoing tensions, with Israel maintaining its right to self-defence against potential attacks.

The strike hit a civilian car in the Al-Ahli Club area of Nuseirat, prompting reports of casualties from local medical sources. Al-Awda Hospital, a facility in the Hamas-run territory, confirmed it had received four injured individuals for treatment following the incident. The hospital's statement highlighted the civilian nature of the targeted vehicle, underscoring the challenges of distinguishing between combatants and non-combatants in densely populated urban refugee camps like Nuseirat, which houses tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians.

This incident marks a notable breach—or at least a test—of the recent ceasefire, which came after months of escalating hostilities in the region.
