Israeli Airstrikes Kill Four in Gaza, Including Two Children

At least four people, including two children, were killed in Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip on Thursday, according to Gaza's civil defence agency and local hospitals. The reported attacks occurred despite an existing ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, highlighting the continued volatility in the region. Emergency officials said several others were also injured in the strikes and taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Civil Defence spokesperson Mahmoud Basal told AFP that four people lost their lives in Israeli airstrikes carried out in different parts of the Gaza Strip. Among the victims were two children, while a number of other civilians sustained injuries. One of the strikes reportedly targeted an area near a camp sheltering displaced people close to Gaza City, killing one Palestinian and injuring at least ten others.

According to local hospitals, additional casualties were reported in separate incidents elsewhere in the territory. Medical teams and rescue workers responded to the affected areas, transporting the injured for treatment as authorities continued to assess the extent of the damage. Gaza's civil defence agency said emergency crews remained engaged in rescue and recovery operations following the reported attacks.

The Israeli military did not immediately confirm any specific strike mentioned in the reports. Israel has previously stated that its military operations target militant infrastructure and armed groups, while maintaining that civilian casualties are not intentionally targeted. There was no immediate official comment from the military regarding Thursday's reported incidents.

Although a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas remains formally in effect, sporadic violence has continued across Gaza in recent weeks. Negotiations aimed at securing a broader and more permanent agreement to end the conflict have yet to produce a breakthrough, with both sides continuing to accuse each other of violating ceasefire understandings.

The latest reported fatalities underscore the fragile nature of the current truce and the ongoing humanitarian challenges facing Gaza's civilian population. International mediators continue efforts to preserve the ceasefire and advance talks toward a lasting settlement, even as intermittent violence threatens to undermine progress and further complicate the already dire situation on the ground.
