Israel Strikes Iran's Parchin Nuclear Site: Military Says Facility Was Key to Weapons Development

Israeli warplanes struck the Taleghan facility at Parchin, claiming Iran was rebuilding nuclear capabilities.

The Israel Defense Forces said it has targeted a site it claims is linked to Iran’s nuclear programme during a series of recent airstrikes, according to a report by Al Jazeera. Israeli officials described the location as a critical facility allegedly connected to Tehran’s efforts to advance capabilities related to nuclear weapons development.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the Israeli military said its warplanes struck the Taleghan site, located within the Parchin Military Complex. The complex lies roughly 30 kilometres southeast of Tehran and has long been a focal point of international scrutiny due to allegations that it has hosted sensitive military and research activities.

According to the Israeli military, the targeted location was being used by Iran “to advance critical capabilities in developing nuclear weapons.” Israeli authorities claimed the facility plays an important role in Iran’s suspected weapons development infrastructure. The airstrike was part of a broader wave of attacks carried out in recent days as tensions between the two countries have sharply escalated.

Israeli officials also noted that the same site had previously been targeted during Israeli strikes in October 2024. At that time, Israel accused Iran of conducting activities linked to weapons development at the complex. The military now claims that Iranian authorities had recently begun rehabilitating the facility after earlier damage, prompting the latest strike on the location.

The situation surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme has been a long-standing source of geopolitical tension in the Middle East and beyond. Israel has consistently expressed concerns that Iran could eventually develop nuclear weapons capability, while urging stronger international oversight of facilities suspected of being involved in sensitive research or weapons-related activities.

However, Iranian officials have repeatedly rejected the allegations. The government in Tehran has maintained that its nuclear programme is intended solely for peaceful purposes, such as energy generation and scientific research. Iran has consistently denied any intention to develop nuclear weapons, even as disputes over its nuclear activities continue to shape regional security dynamics and international diplomacy.
