Iranian Man Among Two Arrested For Breaching UK's Trident Nuclear Submarine Base in Scotland

Scottish police arrested an Iranian man and a woman attempting to enter the Faslane nuclear submarine base.

Two individuals, including an Iranian national, were arrested after attempting to enter a high-security Royal Navy facility in Scotland, police confirmed on Friday. The incident took place at HM Naval Base Clyde, a strategically significant military site.

According to Police Scotland, officers were alerted around 5 pm on March 19 after reports of two people trying to gain unauthorised access to the base. A 34-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were detained, and investigations into the incident are currently ongoing.

The naval facility, commonly known as Faslane, is home to the United Kingdom’s Trident nuclear weapons system. It houses submarines equipped with Trident ballistic missiles, making it one of the most sensitive defence installations in the country.

While authorities have not officially disclosed the nationality of the suspects, several UK media reports identified one of those arrested as an Iranian man. Officials have not yet commented on the motive behind the attempted breach.

The development comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions, with the United Kingdom recently allowing the United States to use certain military bases for operations linked to its conflict with Iran. British authorities have maintained that these operations are defensive in nature.

The base has also been a frequent site of protests, including demonstrations earlier this month organised by the Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Security at the facility remains tight as investigations continue into the attempted intrusion.
