Iran Urges Countries To Stay Out Of US Economic Pressure Campaign
Tehran urges nations to reject Washington’s economic pressure measures.
A senior Iranian security official has warned neighbouring countries and other states against joining what Tehran describes as a US “economic pressure campaign” against Iran, saying countries that participate could be treated as adversaries. Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, issued the warning in an interview with state-run IRIB TV on Saturday. His remarks came amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington over economic measures targeting Iran.
Rezaei said Iran would initially seek dialogue with countries involved in the US campaign and urge them not to participate in what he called an American “economic war” against his country. However, he warned that Tehran could take action against the interests of countries that continued to support the pressure campaign. The remarks signal a potentially broader regional dimension to the confrontation between Iran and the United States.
The Iranian official also warned that Tehran would not allow oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf if regional countries support the US pressure campaign. Rezaei further said the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until the United States fulfils its commitments under a peace memorandum of understanding that he said was signed between Tehran and Washington in June. The strategic waterway is a major route for global energy shipments.

Rezaei’s comments followed US President Donald Trump’s announcement on Wednesday of what he described as the “most crushing economic operation ever taken” against countries providing a lifeline to Iran. Trump said the measures would amount to economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale. The US pressure campaign has intensified the already strained relationship between Washington and Tehran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi rejected the latest US economic measures, saying they would fail like previous attempts to pressure Tehran. In a social media post, he cited earlier US sanctions campaigns and argued that successive efforts to force Iran to change course had not achieved their objectives. His comments reflected Tehran’s broader position that economic pressure will not compel Iran to concede to US demands.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi also accused Washington of escalating pressure under the label of an “economic war.” He said the US campaign was an attempt to mask what Tehran considers previous failures to weaken Iran. Gharibabadi further claimed that Washington’s efforts to secure support from its allies contradicted US assertions that Iran was nearing collapse, according to Iran’s official news agency IRNA.
