Iran Strikes US Bases In Gulf States, Disrupting Regional Flight Operations

Iran strikes US bases in Gulf states, disrupting regional flights.

Air travel across parts of the Middle East has come under increased scrutiny following renewed military exchanges between the United States and Iran, with passengers travelling to the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan advised to monitor the latest updates from their airlines. While social media posts have claimed that flight operations in several Gulf countries have been disrupted, authorities have not officially confirmed widespread cancellations or prolonged suspensions as of Monday morning.

The latest escalation follows fresh strikes exchanged between US and Iranian forces over the weekend amid continuing tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. Reports of missile launches and heightened military activity have raised concerns about aviation safety across the region, prompting travellers to closely track airline advisories before departing for or transiting through affected destinations.

In the United Arab Emirates, air defence systems were reportedly activated after missile and drone threats were detected. Authorities later clarified that the reported missile threats remained outside the country's borders. Meanwhile, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed it had targeted US military bases in Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait, according to Iranian state media. Bahrain's Interior Ministry also activated warning sirens and urged residents to remain calm, move to the nearest safe location and rely on official channels for further updates.

State media in Iran also reported that Jordan temporarily suspended flight operations at Amman's airport following the reported missile attacks. However, aviation authorities and governments across the region continue to assess the security situation, with airlines expected to adjust operations if required. Passengers are being advised to verify the status of their flights directly with their carriers before travelling.

The latest developments come after Iran warned neighbouring Gulf countries against allowing their territories to be used for military operations against the Islamic Republic. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei accused the United States of violating the ceasefire agreement reached last month and described the recent attacks as a continuation of what Tehran called unprovoked aggression. Iran has also maintained that any country facilitating attacks against it could face consequences.

The evolving security situation has heightened concerns over regional stability, particularly as the Gulf serves as a major global aviation and energy hub. Although no official confirmation of widespread flight cancellations has been issued, airlines and aviation authorities remain on high alert as military tensions continue. Travellers are advised to monitor official announcements from airlines and civil aviation authorities for the latest information on flight schedules and operational changes.
