Iran Reacts To US Strikes, Labels Them Violation Of Peace Agreement

Iran condemns US strikes, calling them a violation of a peace deal.

Iran has accused the United States of violating a recently agreed peace deal following renewed military strikes and retaliatory attacks in the Gulf region, escalating tensions in one of the world’s most strategically important waterways, the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian authorities said on Saturday that US strikes on Iranian territory, including missile and drone storage sites and coastal radar positions, constituted a “blatant violation” of the memorandum of understanding intended to end the ongoing conflict. The statement was issued by Iran’s foreign ministry after a fresh exchange of fire between both sides, which has raised concerns about the stability of the fragile ceasefire framework.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said its latest operations were carried out in response to what it described as “unwarranted aggression against commercial shipping by Iranian forces.” It claimed that Iranian actions had violated the ceasefire and justified the strikes as a defensive measure aimed at protecting maritime traffic in the Gulf region.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) responded by launching retaliatory strikes against what it described as US-linked positions in the Gulf. The IRGC warned that any further escalation would trigger a broader response, while simultaneously ordering vessels not to enter or leave the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz without Iranian permission. Despite this warning, commercial shipping continued in the region, with some vessels reportedly taking alternative routes.

The situation has also drawn reactions from other regional actors. Bahrain’s foreign ministry accused Iran of deploying drones toward its territory, calling the action an attempt to undermine peace efforts. Meanwhile, reports from Iranian state media indicated explosions in southern coastal areas, although officials later said that port operations remained unaffected and no significant damage was recorded.

The renewed hostilities come amid broader diplomatic efforts involving the United States, Iran, and regional stakeholders to stabilise maritime security and advance a long-term settlement. US officials, including President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, warned of further consequences if attacks continue, while negotiations over nuclear safeguards and verification mechanisms remain ongoing under international supervision. The United Nations’ nuclear watchdog has stressed that any final agreement will require strict monitoring to prevent nuclear escalation, even as tensions continue to rise on the ground.
