Iran in ‘Total War’ With US, Israel and Europe, Says President Pezeshkian
Pezeshkian declares full-scale war against West amid rising tensions.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in an interview published on Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's official website, asserted that Iran is engaged in a "total war" or "full-scale war" with the United States, Israel, and Europe. He accused these powers of seeking to destabilize the nation and force it to its knees, framing the confrontation as encompassing economic sanctions, political isolation, and military pressures.
Pezeshkian compared the current multifaceted threats to the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, which resulted in over one million casualties, declaring the present situation more intricate and perilous due to its non-conventional nature. He emphasized the need for national unity to counter adversaries exploiting internal divisions, while claiming Iran's armed forces have emerged stronger in manpower and equipment despite challenges.
The statements were issued days before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's scheduled meeting with US President Donald Trump, where Iran's nuclear program, ballistic missile advancements, and regional activities are expected to dominate discussions. Reports indicate Netanyahu intends to brief Trump on potential new strikes targeting Iran's rebuilding missile production and air defenses.

The rhetoric follows a 12-day direct war in June 2025, initiated by Israeli preemptive strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, military sites, and infrastructure, killing over 1,000 Iranians including key commanders and scientists. Iran retaliated with missile barrages causing 28 deaths in Israel, before US forces bombed three fortified nuclear sites, prompting a ceasefire on June 24.
Iran insists its nuclear activities remain peaceful, rejecting Western allegations of weapon development. Pezeshkian warned that renewed aggression would elicit a more decisive response, as Trump revives maximum pressure sanctions and European nations support UN snapback mechanisms, intensifying economic strain on Tehran amid stalled diplomacy.
