Iran Foreign Minister Says Ceasefire May Speed Netanyahu Legal Proceedings

Iran minister says ceasefire could accelerate Netanyahu’s legal troubles.

Iran’s Foreign Minister has alleged that a region-wide ceasefire in West Asia would directly impact Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s legal troubles, saying it could accelerate his imprisonment amid ongoing corruption proceedings.

Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi made the remarks in a post on social media platform X, where he linked the political and legal pressures facing Netanyahu with the broader diplomatic and military situation in the region. He suggested that Netanyahu is actively resisting diplomatic progress in order to safeguard his political position as legal proceedings against him continue in Israel.

Araghchi stated that Netanyahu’s criminal trial is set to resume shortly, and argued that any comprehensive ceasefire covering multiple regional fronts, including Lebanon, would “hasten his jailing.” The comments come amid heightened diplomatic activity surrounding a fragile ceasefire framework between Iran and the United States, as well as parallel tensions involving Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The Iranian foreign minister also urged the United States not to allow Netanyahu to undermine ongoing diplomatic negotiations, warning that doing so could derail broader efforts to stabilize the region. He accused Israel of obstructing diplomatic pathways and framing its military actions in a way that prolongs conflict rather than resolving it.

Netanyahu, who has been facing long-running corruption charges in Israel involving allegations of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, denies all wrongdoing. His trial has experienced repeated delays in recent years due to political and security developments, including ongoing regional conflicts.

The comments underscore growing friction between Iranian officials and the Israeli leadership, as diplomatic efforts attempt to manage overlapping conflicts across Gaza, Lebanon, and wider regional flashpoints, while legal and political pressures continue to shape narratives on both sides.
