Iran Embassy Praises Tulsi Gabbard After Resignation Over Remarks On US Foreign Policy
Iran praises Tulsi Gabbard after resignation, citing her remarks on Iran and US policy.
The Iranian Embassy in Armenia has issued remarks praising former U.S. intelligence chief Tulsi Gabbard following her resignation as Director of National Intelligence in the United States, a development that comes amid a mix of personal, political, and diplomatic reactions surrounding her exit from office. In a post shared on X, the Iranian diplomatic mission in Armenia commented on Gabbard’s previous statements about Iran, suggesting that she had at times “spoken truths” that were not well received by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The embassy also framed her past positions as occasionally aligning with American national interests rather than external influence, while criticising broader U.S. policy towards Iran and its regional stance. The remarks came shortly after Gabbard announced her resignation from her role as Director of National Intelligence in the administration of Donald Trump. In her statement, Gabbard said she was stepping down due to personal reasons, citing her husband Abraham’s diagnosis with a rare form of bone cancer and the need to prioritise family care during his treatment and recovery period.
Gabbard, who has led the Office of the Director of National Intelligence for roughly a year and a half, expressed gratitude to Trump for appointing her and for the opportunity to serve in the intelligence leadership role. She indicated that her resignation would take effect on June 30, 2026, marking the end of her tenure in one of the U.S. government’s most senior intelligence positions.

The announcement also prompted reactions from within U.S. political circles. Donald Trump publicly acknowledged Gabbard’s departure, describing her performance in office positively while confirming that she was stepping away due to her husband’s medical condition. He also indicated that senior intelligence official Aaron Lukas would serve as acting director following her exit.
However, reports surrounding her resignation have also included claims of internal friction, with some media accounts suggesting that her departure may not have been solely voluntary. Citing unnamed officials, these reports have pointed to earlier disagreements over policy direction, including Iran-related assessments, and speculation about a potential leadership change prior to her announcement. Despite this, no official confirmation has been issued to support those claims, and Gabbard’s stated reason remains focused on her family situation.
