Iran Declares Nuclear Rebuild “Stronger Than Ever” Following US-Israel Airstrikes

Iran vows to rebuild nuclear sites stronger after US-Israel strikes, defying international pressure.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared on Sunday that the nation would rebuild its nuclear facilities damaged by recent Israeli and US strikes "stronger than before." Speaking during a visit to the country's nuclear organization, Pezeshkian emphasized that the destruction of physical infrastructure would not hinder progress, as Iranian scientists retain critical expertise. His remarks, shared via a video on his official website, echo similar statements made in February prior to the attacks, underscoring Tehran's determination to advance its nuclear program despite setbacks.

The strikes in question stem from Israel's unprecedented June bombing campaign, which targeted nuclear and military sites, as well as residential areas, and resulted in the deaths of numerous top Iranian scientists. This escalated into a 12-day war, with Iran responding through ballistic missile attacks on Israeli cities. US involvement followed, with President Donald Trump asserting that the operations had "obliterated" Iran's nuclear capabilities. However, the precise extent of the damage remains unverified, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described it in July as "serious and severe" following a US-announced ceasefire.

Amid these tensions, diplomatic efforts are resurfacing through Oman, a longstanding mediator between Tehran and Washington. Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, speaking at the IISS Manama Dialogue in Bahrain, urged the resumption of talks, noting that five rounds of US-Iran negotiations had occurred this year. The sixth round was abruptly halted just days before Israel's initial strikes. Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani confirmed on Sunday that Tehran had received unspecified messages regarding renewed diplomacy.

Complicating the landscape, Iran now contends with reinstated UN sanctions after Britain, Germany, and France activated the "snapback" mechanism, citing alleged violations of the 2015 nuclear accord. Pezeshkian provided no specifics on reconstruction plans, but his defiant tone signals Iran's intent to persist in the face of international pressure and military actions.
