Inquest Reveals Saudi Prince Died from Fatal Substance Mix at London Hotel

Saudi Prince Abdullah bin Fahad bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Jalawi al Saud died at a London hotel last year after suffering a cardiac arrest linked to the consumption of alcohol and multiple substances, according to details presented during an inquest at Inner West London Coroner's Court. A toxicology report revealed traces of alcohol, gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), cannabis, and the anti-anxiety medication Xanax in his system at the time of his death.

The 29-year-old member of Saudi Arabia’s ruling dynasty was found unconscious on the bathroom floor of his locked fifth-floor room at the Marriott Hotel in Kensington, West London, on November 25. A hotel cleaner discovered him fully clothed, following which emergency services were called. Paramedics attempted to revive him but were unable to resuscitate him. The inquest heard that his death was caused by a cardiac arrest resulting from the combined effects of alcohol and drugs.

According to the toxicology findings presented in court, Prince Abdullah had a blood alcohol concentration of 222 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood, nearly three times the legal drink-driving limit in the UK. His system also contained potentially fatal levels of GHB, a substance commonly associated with recreational use, along with traces of cannabis, alprazolam (Xanax), and other anti-anxiety medications.

The inquest was also told that the prince had previously struggled with alcohol and Xanax use and had sought medical treatment before his death. Three months earlier, he had been admitted to the Priory Clinic in Roehampton, London, where he underwent detoxification from alcohol, benzodiazepines, and pregabalin, an anti-anxiety medication. He later received further treatment at the private Rainford Hall clinic in Merseyside before being discharged on October 14.

Prince Abdullah checked into the Marriott Hotel on November 19 for a week-long stay and was last seen on CCTV the evening before his death while stepping outside to smoke. Authorities said he was not considered a suicide risk, and a police investigation found no evidence of third-party involvement. CCTV footage showed that he was alone before his death, with officials concluding that the fatal cardiac arrest was linked to the combination of substances found in his body.
