Indian Navy Chief Discusses Maritime Security Cooperation With Mauritius Officials
India and Mauritius discuss stronger maritime security cooperation.
Indian Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan on Tuesday held discussions with senior Mauritian officials to strengthen maritime security cooperation and defence ties between India and Mauritius. During his four-day visit to the island nation, Swaminathan met Mauritius Police Force Commissioner of Police Rampersad Sooroojebally and Kan Oye Fong Weng-Poorun, Secretary for Home and Defence Affairs.
The discussions focused on strengthening maritime security cooperation, enhancing the capacity of the Mauritius National Coast Guard, conducting joint surveillance of the country's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and expanding operational linkages between the two maritime forces. Admiral Swaminathan also met India's High Commissioner to Mauritius, Anurag Srivastava, to explore further opportunities for bilateral collaboration.
The Ministry of Defence described Mauritius as an important partner in the Indian Ocean Region and said the visit is aimed at deepening maritime cooperation and defence ties. The engagements with senior Mauritian officials are also intended to enhance operational-level coordination and consolidate the broader strategic partnership between the two countries.

India and Mauritius have maintained regular cooperation in the maritime domain through training exchanges, operational interactions, joint EEZ surveillance, port visits and hydrographic surveys. Mauritius also regularly participates in Indian Navy initiatives and regional platforms, including the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium, MILAN, International Fleet Review, Goa Maritime Conclave, IOS SAGAR and Exercise AIKEYME.
The two countries' maritime partnership is also linked to India's MAHASAGAR vision, which focuses on mutual and holistic advancement for security and growth across regions. Both nations participate in multilateral forums and cooperative initiatives aimed at strengthening security and stability across the Indian Ocean Region.
The Ministry of Defence noted that Swaminathan's visit to Mauritius after assuming charge as Chief of the Naval Staff reflects the importance India attaches to its relationship with the island nation. The ongoing engagements are expected to further strengthen mutual trust, maritime capabilities and coordination between the Indian Navy and Mauritius' maritime security institutions.
