Indian Medical Team Continues Relief Operations In Earthquake-Hit Venezuela

Indian doctors provide relief in Venezuela earthquake zone.

Indian medical teams deployed under ‘Operation Amistad’ continue to receive widespread appreciation from survivors and locals in earthquake-hit Venezuela, where they are providing critical care at a field hospital established by the Indian Army following the devastating twin earthquakes on June 24.

The relief operation was launched after powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck the La Guaira region, the epicentre of the disaster, killing more than 2,000 people and leaving widespread destruction in their wake. India dispatched a field hospital unit, along with relief supplies, medicines, and medical equipment, which reached Venezuela on June 28 as part of its humanitarian assistance efforts.

Patients treated at the Indian Army’s field hospital have expressed gratitude for the care and support they are receiving. A survivor suffering multiple fractures described the treatment as “excellent,” adding that the medical staff had a “gentle touch” that made procedures less painful. The patient also recounted sustaining serious injuries, including fractures in the arm and a hairline fracture in the foot, during the earthquake while being with family members at the time of the disaster.

Locals accompanying patients have also praised the Indian medical teams for their dedication and professionalism. One attendee at the field hospital said she was deeply impressed by the commitment shown by the doctors and staff, noting their consistent attention to each patient even under difficult conditions. She added that the compassion and care demonstrated by the team left a strong emotional impact on those receiving treatment.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) shared visuals and testimonies from the field hospital on social media platform X, highlighting the humanitarian mission. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that “care brings hope,” emphasising the role of the Army Field Hospital in delivering compassionate medical support to affected communities during the crisis.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had earlier noted that India’s assistance, including the field hospital unit and medical supplies, was aimed at strengthening ongoing relief efforts in Venezuela. The deployment underscores India’s broader approach to disaster response diplomacy, where rapid humanitarian aid and medical assistance are extended to countries facing large-scale natural disasters.
