Indian Landlady In Canada Held After Tenant Alleges Harassment Over Barbecue Use

Tenant alleges harassment over barbecue use in Canada.

An Indian-origin woman in Canada was arrested following a dispute with her tenant over the use of a barbecue at a rental property. The tenant, who shared a series of clips on Instagram under the account name “Tiwana Farm Servivor”, accused his landlady, identified as Raj Tiwana, of repeatedly harassing him and entering his rental unit without consent. The videos document several tense encounters between the two, although Hindustan Times could not independently verify their authenticity or establish the complete circumstances surrounding the dispute.

The disagreement reportedly began when the tenant used a barbecue at the rental property. In one of the clips, Tiwana is heard objecting to its use and saying it had caused “burns” on the side of her house, while the tenant disputed the claim and said the marks were “rust”. The argument escalated as the tenant said he should be able to invite friends and prepare dinner at the property, while Tiwana said she needed to protect her property from damage.

Another clip shared by the tenant appears to show Tiwana taking a piece of wood and attempting to remove food from the barbecue grill. The tenant and a friend who was recording the incident intervened, with the friend saying they were trying to have dinner. The tenant eventually picked up his food and left the area after Tiwana refused to move away from the barbecue.

The tenant also alleged that the landlady had the locks to his rental unit changed and that other men entered the property without his permission. One video purportedly shows four men inside the unit, with one appearing to acknowledge the tenant's presence before the group leaves. The tenant can be heard questioning why they were inside his unit and telling them that entering without permission was illegal. The videos alone, however, do not independently establish the legal status of the entry or the circumstances surrounding the alleged lock change.

In another clip, Tiwana is seen entering the tenant’s unit during an argument. The tenant alleges that she threw a rock at him and attempted to interfere with the recording. She is also seen making a movement towards the tenant’s friend with an object. The footage depicts an increasingly confrontational exchange, but the circumstances leading up to the recorded moments remain unclear. The tenant subsequently shared the clips as part of his account of what he described as repeated harassment.

Police later arrived at Tiwana’s residence, where officers told her that she was under arrest. The officers took her phone and keys before handcuffing her and escorting her to a police vehicle. During the exchange, Tiwana said she needed to contact her daughter and lawyer, while officers discussed the tenant’s belongings that remained inside the rental unit. The tenant later urged viewers not to threaten or harm anyone involved, saying his social media page was intended to raise awareness about the dispute rather than encourage retaliation.
