Indian Family Tragedy: Husband Kills Four Including Wife in Georgia Home

A devastating domestic shooting unfolded in Lawrenceville, Georgia, claiming the lives of four individuals from an Indian-origin family. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday in a home on Brook Ivy Court, where police discovered the bodies of four adults who had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Authorities described the event as stemming from a family argument that escalated tragically.
The suspect, identified as 51-year-old Vijay Kumar from Atlanta, was taken into custody shortly after officers responded to the scene around 2:30 a.m. He now faces multiple serious charges, including four counts of malice murder, four counts of felony murder, aggravated assault, and cruelty to children. Kumar allegedly shot his 43-year-old wife, Meemu Dogra, along with relatives Gourav Kumar (33), Nidhi Chander (37), and Harish Chander (38). The victims included one Indian national, prompting a response from the Consulate General of India in Atlanta.
Three children were present in the home during the horrifying ordeal. To escape the violence, they hid in a closet for safety. One of the children, a 12-year-old, bravely contacted emergency services by calling 911, providing vital details that enabled police to arrive quickly. Fortunately, the children remained unharmed and were later reunited with a family member. The quick thinking of the young caller likely prevented further tragedy.

The Indian Consulate expressed profound sorrow over the incident, confirming assistance to the bereaved family. “We are deeply grieved by a tragic shooting incident linked to an alleged family dispute, in which an Indian national was among the victims,” the consulate stated on social media. Local police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the argument that led to the killings.
