India’s new Ambassador to Oman, Prashant Pise, formally presented his credentials to Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ General Diwan in Muscat on Friday, marking the official commencement of his diplomatic assignment in the Gulf nation. During the ceremony, the Omani Foreign Minister welcomed Ambassador Pise and conveyed his best wishes for success in his tenure. He expressed confidence that the long-standing bilateral relationship between India and Oman would continue to strengthen and achieve further progress and prosperity, according to a statement shared by Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on social media.
The presentation ceremony was attended by senior officials from both sides, including representatives of the Gulf Cooperation Council and regional affairs departments, as well as protocol officials. The meeting underscored the structured diplomatic engagement between the two countries, which have traditionally maintained close and friendly ties.
Ambassador Prashant Pise assumed charge on June 14. Prior to his posting in Muscat, he served as Additional Secretary in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, where he handled issues related to emigration policy, migration, and mobility. Shortly after taking charge, he paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the Indian Embassy in Oman, highlighting the values of peace, truth and non-violence as guiding principles of India’s diplomatic outreach.

India and Oman share historic ties rooted in geography, trade and cultural exchange, with formal diplomatic relations established in 1955. The relationship was elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2008, reflecting growing cooperation across political, economic and security domains.
Recent high-level engagements have further reinforced the partnership. Earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Oman’s ruler Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, during which both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to regional stability, maritime security and diplomatic dialogue. They also discussed coordination on safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and expressed appreciation for Oman’s support in assisting the return of Indian nationals during regional tensions in West Asia.
The latest diplomatic exchange through Ambassador Pise’s credential presentation is expected to further deepen cooperation between the two countries across multiple sectors, including trade, energy, and people-to-people ties.
