India, Slovenia Elevate Trade Ties With New Joint Cooperation Framework

The two nations agreed to deepen collaboration in trade, technology, and key economic sectors.

India and Slovenia have reinforced their economic partnership during the 10th Session of the India–Slovenia Joint Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation (JCTEC), held on November 26 in New Delhi. The meeting, co-chaired by Saket Kumar, Joint Secretary in India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and Peter Japelj, Director General for Economic, Cultural and Scientific Diplomacy from Slovenia, reviewed the current state of bilateral trade and devised a plan for future collaboration.

Officials from both countries noted that bilateral trade has maintained a steady upward trend in recent years, signaling the growing strength of their economic relationship. The discussions at JCTEC centered on expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, including agriculture, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, energy, transport, tourism, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Ayurveda and traditional medicine also featured as areas of potential joint development.

The committee highlighted Slovenia’s strategic position in Central Europe as a gateway for India’s extended economic engagement with the continent. Both delegations acknowledged that Slovenia can play a vital role in connecting Indian industries with European markets by leveraging its location, infrastructure, and policy environment.

Beyond trade and investment, the talks covered global and domestic economic factors influencing bilateral growth. Both sides reiterated their commitment to facilitating a balanced and mutually beneficial India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), viewing it as a major step toward diversifying trade channels and boosting long-term cooperation.

During his visit, Slovenian official Peter Japelj also met with India’s Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal to discuss joint opportunities in emerging sectors and align future strategies. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of India’s intent to build a dynamic, trust-based economic partnership with Slovenia—one that fosters shared prosperity, innovation, and a stronger bond between South Asia and Europe.
