India Set to Attend Commonwealth Law Ministers Meet in Fiji
India to join Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting in Fiji February 9-12, 2026.
India is set to participate in the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting in Nadi, Fiji, from February 9 to 12, 2026. The gathering will bring together law ministers and attorneys general from across the Commonwealth to deliberate on reinforcing the rule of law amid mounting global challenges.
The three-day event will focus on practical measures to enhance access to justice, strengthen legal institutions, and support stable societies, fair economies, and environmental protection. Ministers are expected to explore strategies to ensure that legal safeguards underpin democratic participation, safe communities, and fair livelihoods.
Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey highlighted the urgency of the discussions, noting that the rule of law is under serious pressure worldwide. “Where it is weakened or unevenly applied, ordinary people feel the impact most sharply. For the Commonwealth, the rule of law is foundational to peace, stability, and development,” she said.

The meeting, themed ‘Anchoring Justice in a Changing Tide: Strengthening the Rule of Law for a Resilient Future’, will be chaired by Fiji’s Minister for Justice and acting Attorney General, Siromi Turaga. He emphasized the importance of flexible, inclusive, and responsive justice systems that address climate change, digital transformation, and regional cooperation.
The programme will feature five side events engaging youth leaders, justice system survivors, and disability rights advocates to ensure diverse perspectives inform ministerial discussions. India’s participation will focus on sharing best practices and collaborating with other Commonwealth nations to uphold justice and legal resilience.
The gathering is seen as a critical platform for reinforcing international cooperation in law and governance, ensuring that legal institutions across member states remain robust and responsive to emerging global challenges.
