India Reaffirms Palestine Support, Backs Negotiated Two-State Solution Amid Regional Conflict
India backs Palestine, supports negotiated two-state solution.
India has reaffirmed its longstanding support for the Palestinian people and backed a negotiated two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict during talks between Ministry of External Affairs Secretary Sripriya Ranganathan and Palestine's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Aghabekian Shahin in Ramallah. The discussions focused on India-Palestine relations, the humanitarian situation in Gaza and India's continuing development partnership with the Palestinian people. Ranganathan, who is on an official visit to Palestine, met Shahin on Tuesday in her first engagement during the visit.
According to an official statement issued by the Indian Representative Office in Ramallah, the two sides reviewed the full range of bilateral relations, with particular attention to developments in Gaza, humanitarian requirements and India's assistance to Palestine. The discussions also covered areas where the two countries could expand cooperation. During the meeting, Ranganathan reiterated India's consistent support for the Palestinian people and its position in favour of a negotiated two-state solution. India has traditionally supported a resolution to the conflict that allows Palestinians and Israelis to live in secure and peaceful states, while emphasising dialogue and diplomacy as the means to achieve a lasting political settlement.
The Indian official also expressed concern over what New Delhi described as the "grave humanitarian situation in Gaza". She stressed the importance of ensuring the "safe, sustained and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance" to civilians affected by the conflict. India said humanitarian support must reach people in need and reiterated its broader support for efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region. Ranganathan further reaffirmed India's support for initiatives seeking a lasting political resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. The position reflects India's continuing emphasis on negotiations and peaceful means of resolving the longstanding dispute.

The Gaza conflict and its humanitarian consequences have remained a major focus of international diplomatic engagement, with countries calling for greater assistance for civilians. The talks also included a review of India's development and humanitarian assistance to Palestine. According to the Indian Representative Office, the two sides discussed ongoing Indian initiatives in areas including healthcare, education and capacity-building. India's development partnership with Palestine has included projects and assistance intended to support essential services and strengthen local capabilities. The officials also explored new areas of cooperation where India's development experience could help address the needs of the Palestinian people.
The discussions indicate that India's engagement with Palestine extends beyond political issues and includes development assistance and capacity-building programmes. Both sides considered ways to build on existing cooperation while responding to changing humanitarian and development requirements. Ranganathan's visit comes amid continuing international concern over the situation in Gaza and efforts to find a lasting political resolution to the conflict. India's reaffirmation of support for Palestine, humanitarian assistance and a negotiated two-state solution underscores New Delhi's stated commitment to engaging with the Palestinian side while advocating dialogue and diplomacy as the basis for achieving peace and stability in the region.
