India-Nepal: Misri’s Key Talks with PM Oli Spark Hope
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri meets Nepal’s PM Oli to strengthen ties and prepare for a high-stakes visit to India.
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met with Nepal’s Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli on Sunday at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singhdurbar, marking a significant step in his two-day official visit to Nepal. The meeting, attended by Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava, underscores India’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations under its Neighbourhood First policy.
Misri is set to meet President Ramchandra Paudel, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, and key political leaders, including Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda.” A bilateral meeting with Rai is also scheduled.
The visit primarily aims to pave the way for Prime Minister Oli’s anticipated trip to India around September 16, with Misri expected to deliver a formal invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss the agenda, including potential visits to Bodh Gaya and Nalanda University.
